This native tropical hammock tree has been a favorite of mine since I was a toddler. It grows to 64 feet in south Florida and has been called the "tourist tree" because of its flaky, peeling reddish bark which resembles sunburnt skin. Green branches stuck in the ground will usually root and grow. This one lives on Munyon Island near North Palm Beach, Florida. Gumbo limbo has such a large variety of economic, wildlife and medicinal uses that I'll just post the Wikipedia link for those interested:
