El so verdaderu nome yera Emily Marie Bertelson, y nació en Marysvale (Utah).

Windsor, antigua Miss Utah y d'elevada estatura, estudió teatru so les órdenes de Maria Ouspenskaya, y tres dellos años trabayando como operadora telefónica, actriz teatral y radiofónica, amás d'extra nel cine, empezó a actuar en llargumetraxes en 1947.[4]

El so primer papel destacáu llegó xunto a John Garfield en Force of Evil, interpretando a la engañadora Edna Tucker. Windsor tamién tuvo actuaciones d'importancia en filmes de cine negru tales como The Sniper, The Narrow Margin, City That Never Sleeps y The Killing, de Stanley Kubrick, nel papel de la intrigante esposa d'Elisha Cook Jr..

Darréu trabayó na televisión, actuando en producciones como Maverick (nos episodios "The Quick and the Dead" con James Garner y "Epitaph for a Gambler"), L'Increíble Hulk, General Hospital, Murder, She Wrote y Rawhide ("Incident on the Edge of Madness").

En retirándose de la interpretación, dedicar a la pintura y a la escultura. Finó en 2000 en Beverly Hills, California, por causa d'una insuficiencia cardiaca. Foi soterrada nel Campusantu Mountain View de Marysvale (Utah).

Casóse en dos causes. La primera col actor Ted Stevens, de quien se divorció más tarde, y la segunda con Jack Hupp, miembru del equipu olímpicu de baloncestu de los Estaos Xuníos en 1936, y col que tuvo un fíu.
