Llámenlu 039;“estáu vexetativu persistente”' o "estáu comatosu persistente" a una condición clínica en que la persona nun da nengún signu evidente de consciencia de sigo o del ambiente, y paez incapaz d'interactuar colos demás o de reaccionar a estímulos fayadizos.

El diagnósticu correutu ye difícil y de normal rique una llarga y sollerte observación en centros especializaos. Dalgunes d'estes persones, con una atención apropiada y rehabilitación, son capaces de salir del estáu vexetativu. Pero munchos otros permanecen nesi estáu, inclusive mientres años, ensin soportes teunolóxicos.
