Biografía[editar | editar la fonte]

El so verdaderu nome yera Niles Eugene Welch, y nació en Hartford (Connecticut). En graduándose na St. Paul's School, Welch estudió na Universidá de Yale y na Universidá de Columbia. Ente los sos primeros trabayos destaquen dos producciones de Thomas Harper Ince, Stepping Out y The Cup of Life, siguíes en rápida socesión por Miss George Washington, con Marguerite Clark; The Courage of Marge O'Doone, con Pauline Starke; y The Gulf Between (1917), con Grace Darmond, la primer película estrenada cola versión aditiva del Technicolor.
